The Challenge

Before automation, all of this ran through one gate booth, staffed by a security guard around the clock, checking who could enter, directing traffic by hand, and coordinating with the site’s weighing and record-keeping processes manually. It worked, but it depended entirely on whoever was on shift making the right call for every truck, visitor, and shipment. For trucks bringing in raw material, that meant unpredictable waiting time at the gate, anywhere from a few minutes to over 15 minutes depending on how busy the booth was. It also meant a continuous staffing cost that didn’t get any lighter as volumes grew.

The Solution

Kohila Plywood implemented Entringo Traffic to automate and digitize vehicle access, guidance, and site data from the gate to the exit. The deployment covers:

Number-plate based access and navigation, so vehicles are recognized automatically and access and routing decisions happen without manual checks
Digital lane guidance, with on-site lane screens directing each driver to their exact destination
A digital queue system, including screen displays and SMS calling, that manages when and in what order trucks are called forward
Self-service kiosk registration for visitors who don’t already have a record on file, no staff needed
Integrated devices, connecting the site’s weighing scale and security cameras directly into the system
Waybill system integration, pulling shipment data straight from the digital waybill platform used for timber shipments to generate the right access permits and navigation rules for each vehicle

The system also distinguishes between different types of site users, so it can handle raw material transporters, outgoing finished goods, couriers, partners, employees with zone-based access, and one-off or anonymous visitors all in parallel, each authorized and routed under its own rules without anyone at the gate sorting them by hand.

The Results

Trucks bringing in raw material used to wait anywhere from a few minutes to over 15 minutes at the gate. Now the whole entry sequence, drive in, cross the scale, enter the site, and head to unloading, happens in under a minute, with no manual step in between.
The gate no longer needs a permanently staffed security booth for routine access control, which has cut operational costs at the site significantly.
Every vehicle’s movement through the gate and across the site is now captured digitally, including weight data from the integrated scale that used to be recorded by hand.
Shipment records from the public digital waybill system are matched to arriving vehicles automatically, so permits and navigation rules are generated without manual data entry.
Raw material and finished goods traffic, visitors, partners, couriers, and staff all move through one system now, instead of depending on a single person’s judgment at the gate.
